Freedive-List-NE is a local electronic mailing list to serve the international freeding-spearfishing community residing in the New England region of the United States. It is a low volume mailing list, mostly used during the diving season. Topics include diving and fishing reports, buddy searches, meet and gathering announcements, recipe postings, rules and regulations for the New England states, personal equipment sales and of course, local jokes! Subscriptions should be approved by the list-owner/list-manager, Ata Bilgili (ata.bilgili@dartmouth.edu).

Because of my professional situation, Freedive-List-NE does not have a permanent home. Between 1995 and 2001, it used to exist as a Majordomo list, called freedive-list-ne@nemo.unh.edu. Since November 2001, it lives as a Listserv list, freedive-list-ne@listserv.dartmouth.edu, in Dartmouth College's Listserver. This may change in the future, in which case all members will be informed via e-mail.

Since 1996, we have been having yearly non-competitive meets in Rhode Island locations, usually during autumn months. Members as far south as North Carolina and as far north as Canada have been attending these events, which consist of a day (or more) of spearfishing, followed by a dinner at a Newport restaurant (usually Aidan's). These friendly meets give us the opportunity to meet new people, to introduce friends and/or family to freediving/spearfishing, to have fun and fill our freezers with tasty fish too. Please feel free to join us during these events, announced via the list. Stories from some of these yearly events are posted on the web and areaccessible via the links below.

IMPORTANT: The freedive-list-ne is in no ways a replacement to the "freedive-list" (www.freediver.net) of Mark Barville. Questions, topics, dive meets, dive reports, discussions should still be announced and take place in the original "freedive-list".
