Researcher Profile

Muhammet Übeydullah Kahveci was born in 1981 in the smallest city of Turkey. He completed his primary and secondary education in this town. He was accepted to Chemistry Department of Aegean University, Izmir in 2000. After one year of foreign language (English) education and one year of chemistry education, he was transferred to Istanbul Technical University (ITU) in 2002.

He continued chemistry education in ITU. In meanwhile, he was accepted to the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics as a Double Major Program Student in 2003. He got his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry in 2005. He ranked first student in ITU, Faculty of Science and Letters, and  Department of Chemistry when he finished his education in 2005. He started Master of Science in same department. He finished Master of Science in Chemistry and Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology and Genetics in 2007. During undergraduate education he has been in Umeå University, Sweden for six months as an Erasmus Exchange Student in 2006.

He began his Ph. D. studies in Department of Chemistry under supervision of Prof Dr. Yusuf Yağcı in 2007. He has been in Monash University of Australia as a visiting researcher for five months in 2008. Now he is doing his Ph. D. in YagciLab, ITU.

He enjoys playing football and ping-pong, reading, listening to music and playing with kites.

Research:

His studies are mainly focused on photopolymerization and polymer synthesis by controlled/living polymerization. In particular, development of novel photoinitiating systems; improvement of UV-curing modes; development of new materials; synthesis of hydrogels, nanocomposites and bio-conjugated polymers; and preparation of bio-active polymers are the main interests.
