He received his BSc, and MSc
degrees in Chemical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University, and. He obtained his PhD. From University of Missouri-Rolla,USA in Chemistry. In 1976.He held postdoctoral position at University of Leeds –UK in 1979-1980.
He is a professor at Istanbul Technical University, Department of Chemistry, Polymer Science and Technology. Prof.Dr.A.Sezai SARAC is currently in charge of Director of Polymer Science & Technology at Istanbul Technical University. He was a Head of Physical Chemistry Div. (ITU), between 1989-1991, and 2000-2006,Head of Department of Chemistry (ITU) (1991 -1994), and Dean of Faculty of Science and Letters (ITU) between1994- 1997.
Prof.Dr.A.Sezai SARAC has authored over 150 scientific publications in refereed journals, and has 7 books (in Turkish), and 10 review articles and book chapters, and about 150 conference contribution papers. He is a member of number of societies, i.e., New York Academy of Sciences, Chemical Society of Turkey, national representative of IUPAC .He has been awarded a number of grants and fellowsips: Deutscher Akademischer Austauch Dienst (DAAD), Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), NATO Collaborative Research Grants, Turkish Scientific Turkish Scientific Research Grants, State Planning Organization Grants.
He was a visiting Professor at Universitat Regensburg, Germany (1990, 1992 and 1995), and at Berlin Technical University (2000-2001) and at Materials and Surface Science Institute (MSSI)-University of Limerick for the academic year of 2002-2003.
He is a National Representative of IUPAC- Commission Since1987.COST D-14 Project -Functional Molecular Materials Management Committee Member(2000-2003),COST 523 Nano-structured materials, Synthesis and Processing/ fundamental Working group member(2001-2003).
His recent research interest center on the thin conjugated nanofilms, Microsupercapacitors, Modified Carbon Fibers,Biosensor electrodes , electrocopolymerization of heterocyclic systems, electrografting onto carbon fibers and their surface characterizations by using advanced techniques i.e., CV, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy, XPS, FIBSIMS ,Raman, FTIRATR on nanoscale ,electroinduced polymerization systems, biosensor applications of modifed micron sized carbon fibers, carbon fiber reinforced polymers for biocompatable implant materials, conductive nanocomposites.
He was a visiting Pofessor at University of Potsdam, Germany between the dates 01.12.2008-31.01.2009 by the support of BMBF-IB-TUBITAK International Project
