A Research on Information Calssification Systems in Computer-Aided Building Construction Management for Project Planning Information in Turkey

SUMMARY

The problem undertaken in this research project can be stated as; "how the information required for project planning in computer-aided construction management could be systematized in Turkish construction industry.

The objectives of the research:

To review the theoretical aspects of construction management in order to provide a common conceptual basis for the discussion to follow.
To define what project planning information means in construction management and to find out and analyze the systems used in organizing this information in Turkey and at abroad.
To investigate the software offered to be used in construction management, to register their titles and capabilities into a database and to analyze their common operational structures.
To discuss the compatibility of various systems used in organizing the information for project planning, to the construction management oriented software and to evaluate the system currently used in Turkey from this point.

In the firs "Introduction" chapter, the research problem is stated after discussing its background and significance. Previous work related to this problem, the objectives, scope and limitations of the research are also outlined here.

The second chapter, is devoted to explaining the "methodology" of the research and to reporting how the research funds were used.

In the third chapter, after reviewing the basic concepts and definitions relating to "construction management" in general; construction project planning and programming, information systems for construction management and computer use in this area are discussed as three significant topics related to the research problem.

The fourth chapter presents the results and findings. First, scope and structure of the computer-aided project planning & programming process is examined. Then a comparative analysis is made on the systems used in a number of countries for organizing and coding the information for project planning. The results of this analysis are presented in a series of tables, which are followed by a single table where all the systems are displayed togather and corresponding categories of construction work are cross referanced.
