Prof Clive Booth

Professor Clive Booth is senior adviser for higher education to the British Council, Chairman of the Teacher Training Agency, Chairman of the Pay Review Body for Nurses and Professions Allied to Medicine, and Deputy Chairman of the South East England Development Agency. He is also Chairman of the multi-media education information company ECCTIS 2000 Limited.

Professor Booth has undertaken consultancies on higher education reform and quality assurance for the World Bank, Council of Europe, European Commission and the National Audit Office. He was Vice-Chancellor of Oxford Brookes University (1986-97) and a Vice Chairman of the UK Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals (1992-95).

Professor Booth was a senior civil servant in the Department of Education and Science between 1965 and 1981, and was Principal Private Secretary to two Secretaries of State for Education and Science.

He has served on the main Board of the British Council, the Royal Society Higher Education Study Group, the Council for Industry and Higher Education, the UK Socrates-Erasmus Council and the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission. He is Chairman of the Editorial Board of Higher Education Quarterly and a Editorial Board Member of the Oxford Review of Education.

He took a science degree in Cambridge and a doctorate in education finance at the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a Harkness Fellow between 1973 and 1975.
