Cenk Üstündağ was born in Istanbul on 4 July 1976. He attended Istanbul (Erkek) Lisesi from 1987
until 1994. In 1998 he received a B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from the Istanbul Technical
University (ITU). Upon graduation he continued to study Structural Engineering and received in
2000 a M.Sc. degree from ITU. In 2000 he started to work as a research assistant at ITU. In 2002
he went to Germany where he studied on the fatigue behaviour of steel-concrete composite structures
at the University of Wuppertal under the supervision of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerhard Hanswille. He was awarded
DAAD Research Grant for Doctoral Candidates and Young Academics and Scientists for three years.
After receiving a Ph.D. degree in civil engineering from the University of Wuppertal he returned
