Short Biography of Melih PAZARCI
Melih PAZARCI was born in Istanbul,
Turkey in 1955. He received the Mühendis Degree in Electrical
Engineering
from the Technical University of Istanbul in 1978 and the MSEE and PhD
degrees from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), Chicago, in 1980 and
1984 respectively. He has been a teaching assistant during his MSEE
studies
at IIT, and worked as a research assistant under contract at the
AT&T
Bell Laboratories in Naperville-IL during his PhD studies. He was an
Assistant
Professor in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Electronics of
the
Technical University of Istanbul (ITU) from 1985 to 1986, a Visiting
Assistant
Professor in the Illinois Institute of Technology- Telecommunications
Systems
Center (IIT-TSC) from 1986 to 1989, and an
Associate Professor in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and
Electronics of ITU from 1989 to 2003. Until his retirement in 2017, he was a Professor in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and
Electronics of ITU, and the Director of Video Egitim
Merkezi (Video Education Center) of ITU. He has also acted as the EU-95
National Representative for Turkey during 1992-93 and the National
Coordinator
for Advanced TV Technologies during 1993-1994 in addition to his
regular
duties as a faculty member at ITU. He holds four US patents on high
definition
television. He is also the author of numerous publications and one
paper
award on advanced TV techniques and related subjects. His current
research
interests include advanced TV techniques, digital image and video
signal processing, and audio signal processing. He is a life-member of the
IEEE.
