TAMER ÖLMEZ was born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1964. He received the B.Sc. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 1985, the M.Sc. degree in Computer and Control Engineering in 1988, and Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering in 1995, from Istanbul Technical University, Türkiye.

Between 1985-1988 he worked as a research engineer at TELETAŞ Türkiye. Until the end of 1989 he worked at The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) as a research engineer working on the acquisition and processing of remotely sensed images. Since then he has been with the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Istanbul Technical University, Türkiye, where at present he is a professor.

His current research interests are applications of neural networks and genetic algorithms to pattern recognition and machine learning, biomedical signal processing, image processing, computer vision, real-time signal processing applications based on microprocessors and DSP, design of data acquisition systems, virtual reality, internet applications by using ActiveX, JAVA.
