The Usage of the BCI Keyboard (37×40 cm):
Patient focuses his/her attention on a character/display on the BCI
Keyboard (BCIKey).
The microcontroller of the BCIKey acquires the
EEG data during focusing. The EEG data
and synchronization signals are sent to the PC or mobile phone by
the microcontroller.
The PC or mobile phone processes the EEG data. The decision is sent to
the BCIKey by
using the UART or the bluetooth module of the PC (or mobile phone). To inform the
patient,
BCIKey flashes once the display
related to the decision.

System Properties of the Prototype BCIKey:
i) The BCIKey
contains 10 numeric and 30 alphabetic characters.
ii) The BCIKey contains a couple of active electrodes to get the EEG
data.
iii) A microcontroller is used to send the EEG data / synchronization
signals into the PC
(or mobile phone) and to receive the decision
from the PC (or mobile phone) by using
the UART or bluetooth module.
iv) Each display
flickers at different frequencies more than once. The microcontroller
also controls the frequencies
of each display.
v) The BCIKey also contains acoustic stimuli to develop new applications
in the future.
